Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Flat Rock Historical Society! Volunteers are what make our work possible. Without them, it would be difficult to honor our mission and serve the public.
As a museum with a rich and diverse collection, a regular schedule of changing exhibits, and a whole host of programs and events, there is no shortage of work to be done! Whether you volunteer an hour, a day, or a month, we can easily match you to a project or job that best suits your abilities, interests, and time commitments.
Our volunteer program is generally project-based. Some are longer-term and would require a much more significant commitment, while others are shorter-term and could be completed in as little as a few hours or a few days. For example, one of our long-term projects is the digitization of our archives. We have vast holdings of postcards, merchant’s order forms, letters, and photographs which we are cataloguing and creating digital copies of for better preservation. Committed volunteers are critical to the success of this project. On the other hand, short-term volunteer jobs might include assisting the Curator of Collections with setting up a new exhibit or talking to visitors during an open house.
Whatever your interests, the volunteer process begins with filling out the application below. Please submit the completed application to archives [at] FRDigitalHistory [dot] org or drop it off at the museum. You can expect to hear from us shortly.
As volunteers ourselves, we know just how rewarding and satisfying this work can be–especially when it involves preserving and honoring our heritage. We look forward to working with you!
